We were so close

We were so close to being done with all the finishing touches. So close.

Now we’re no longer quite so close. The walkway roof had a eucalyptus tree land on the roof. Thankfully, the damage is to the exterior walkway and its roof only. No other structural or cosmetic damage. The inside of the guest house and main roof were entirely untouched. The benefits of having added the walkway late, so the roof beams were external to the house. Which means, while it’s going to be a bit time consuming and complicated to fix, it’s not a disaster. It could have been so much worse. Anyone else had to deal with tree damaged roofs ?

Oh, no! Was it wind or a sick tree? Something you now have to watch out for with the other trees? Yuk! Around here we have BIG trees and when they come down there is only a house in the way so there is major damage. Though now that I think on it, Mimi had an 8″ hole punched through their vaulted ceiling from a branch in a wind storm! Very little damage actually! I’m glad it was “just” the walkway for you. How will you advertise for boarders? Will they eat with the family? You are a little way from the grocery store, aren’t you?

Sadly, neither wind nor sick tree. A very poorly planned felling job by one of our employees. Good news, not something we have to worry about with other trees, right? 8″ hole in the ceiling?! Oh my. That would be a shock!
We are planning on posting our guest house on the online-vacation rental platforms. I asked around for a few recommendations but haven’t listed it yet as I don’t have final finished photos. Renters will have their own kitchen – own everything really – so a nice visit to a farm but very self-contained. And yes, we are indeed a ways out from a grocery store. Closest one is about half an hour.
